Wyss Associates, Inc. continued the close collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team that completed the site Master Plan for the Outdoor Campus to refine the Master Plan, develop a preliminary educational program and facility needs checklist.
Several months of design development and meetings with the Department of Game, Fish and Parks and the public Development Committee resulted in specific outdoor educational amenities specific to the unique and wonderful site.
Some of the designed facilities include:
- Beach
- Casting dock
- Water side stone stepping area around the lake
- Five major outdoor classrooms including a picnic shelter
- Two shade canopies covered seating areas
- Treehouse and pavilion
The campus is centered around the "Heart of the Campus", a two acre area where a natural playground, large native grass lawn and other facilities make a fun and active place to focus planned outdoor activities. The majority of the site is left as a natural area with both natural surface and crushed stone pathways connecting a Native Garden, boardwalks through a wetland, and to the adjacent city Wilderness Park.
